As I work the magic of this blog in my “home office”, I’m sitting next to a bookshelf full of books and assorted keepsakes and objet d’art. Many are baseball related, and many are not. I thought I’d use these personal treasures and literary tomes as a tool in self retrospection by posting about them. Along the way I might learn something about myself, and maybe scare off some readers of this blog. You might not want to know what makes me tick!!!!
1st up: Lou Gehrig.
I have always loved the look of the sports figurines that the Danbury Mint puts out, but the price tag was a little too steep for me. $90 plus shipping, and if I was going to lay out that kind of money, what player do I get? Gehrig, Ruth, Mantle????? How do you choose? Well, about 5 years ago I was checking out Ebay when I came across the Lou Gehrig figurine. Brand new in the box, $25, no bids. I had never purchased anything on Ebay before but I put a bid on the figurine, and decided I would go as high as $50. Luckily, nobody else placed a bid, and the figurine was mine for $25……sweet. I had just saved myself $75.
As you can see the figurine comes on a wooden base with a facsimile signature, a name plate, and a medallion in the base. It’s about 10’ high and is high quality. I couldn’t be happier about my 1st Ebay purchase. I’ve bid on other Danbury figurines but the bidding always gets to $60 or more, so Lou is all I have so far. He stands prominently on the top of my bookshelf, a great piece of baseball memorabilia.
Kevin, Nice purchase. I’ve been buying and selling stuff on Ebay for over ten years now. I’ve managed to find some good buys on their. I’ll be interested to see what else you have to share with us.

Thanks Bill. I have never sold on ebay, but I’ve bought a lot of stuff on ebay. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed.
